Every year, I have enjoyed entering the Goodreads Reading Challenge. Even more so, I enjoyed completing it. Some years, exceeding it.
My record so far.
2011: 56 BOOKS
I wrote a post about all the book I read that year, with ratings: Reading Challenge Completed
2012: 64 BOOKS
Another post that includes all the titles, with ratings: 2012 Reading Challenge
2013: 60 BOOKS
Again, I read more than I aimed for. The post with the titles and ratings are here: 2013 Reading Challenge Completed
Before you get me wrong, I’m not telling you this to brag. I have said it before and I will say it again: I enjoy reading and I’m a pretty fast reader, too. But I know many bookworms who do 100-200+ books/year. Mine is only a small feat.
Now to the crux of the story.
I read 43 books out of the 60 I aimed for, and Goodreads tells me I’m 7 books behind schedule. Why does it even tell me that I’m a real bookworm? Sarcasm is not appreciated, thanks.
Not sure how they calculate the progress part. My thinking is this: I have a little less than 2 months till the end of the year. 17 More books to read. That makes 9 books/month to keep on the safe side. Quite a stretch!
Maybe I can pull it off. Maybe I can’t. Tough one, huh?
What do you think? Will I finish reading 60 books by the end of the year?
P.s. Whichever side you lean on, do add me on Goodreads: Elena. Let’s be friends and stalk each other’s readings!
I’m thinking to set a much lower goal for 2015, this challenge discourages me away from 400+ pages books, and many good ones are in that range. So, who cares if you don’t make it, it’s probably better to pick a lower number.

Hey Bibbo! What was your goal this year?
I don’t mind reading long books, but I think twice before re-reading a book. Haven’t figured yet if Goodreads counts it twice or not.

Oh this is so bad with me this year… I’m like 13 book behind!!! And this is all thanks to those super fat books I read such as Steve Job’s biography and Les Miserables. And I am such a slow reader. I don’t think I will be able to complete the challenge this year (though I thought to try and cheat by reading slim books 🙂 ).
But. I don’t even doubt your capabilities! Cause you are truly a fast reader, an achiever, a five-star girl! So go get it, girlie, cheering for you from Belarus!!!
P.S. oh, and long flights and stuff help reading to go faster… just saying

Haha – I know! I’m hoping to do some serious catching up during those long flights!
For now, I’m trying to read all the physical books I have in my personal library, that I’ve had for a while but haven’t read yet. Some are kinda long! And yesterday I wasted 2 hours on a book I didn’t like, and didn’t even finish. Ah, the bookworm life is full of drama!
I know you really liked Les Miserables, but I don’t think you ever told me what you thought of Steve Jobs. How was that?

I also believe that you will manage all 60 of them. And if you don’t, I know you’ll keep reading continuously. You love reading, you don’t read for numbers but for pleasure.
I’m five books behind myself – I was never behind before. I found an awesome podcast called Hardcore History, and I’m also learning a new language. These two things have been eating at my progress later.
I hope to finish all my reading this year. Thanks for sharing!

There really should be something like Goodreads for podcasts – how about that? You’d beat every challenge imaginable!
Let’s do this, both of us – let’s complete our challenges! And find a fun way to celebrate, maybe? How about a trip to some place exotic?

I believe you will manage to read all of them 🙂
I’ve read 49 from 50, and I’m 7 books ahead… 😀
Went in the library today just “to smell” a couple of books, and I ended up buying three books.
Oare, ce e cu mine?!
This quote is so TRUE for me,

so nice to hear from you Nikolino!
Congrats on your challenge! And the newly purchased books 🙂
I’m afraid you suffer from the affliction known as bookaholism. Nothing to do about it but keep buying books.
I don’t blame you, going into a bookstore and coming out empty-handed just never happens to me!
